Ativan

Ativan/Lorazepam

Ativan (the principal medicinal component Lorazepam) belongs to the class of benzodiazepines. Ativan affects poorly balanced chemicals in the brain that can cause anxiety, insomnia and seizures. Lorazepam reduces excitement, nervousness and tension associated with anxiety disorders. Ativan is also used to treat certain types of epileptic disorders and insomnia (the medicine induces sleep). Ativan also may be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

When you are about to buy Ativan (Lorazepam) keep in mind that this medicine is incompatible with certain drugs and has a number of contraindications as for some health conditions. Do not take Ativan if you suffer from narrow-angle glaucoma as Ativan may worsen your condition. The same pertains to a series of other conditions such as

• Hepatic disease;

• Renal disease;

• Asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or other respiratory disease;

• Depression or suicidal ideas.

If you suffer from one or more of the conditions listed above, you can not take Ativan, or you may require a special dosage adjustment and monitoring during its use.

In order to ensure the correct dose measure and add the solution using the measuring spoon, dropper or cup, not a regular table spoon. If you do not have measuring spoon, ask your pharmacist where you can buy one.

Lorazepam is highly addictive. It may be physical and / or psychological dependence on the drug and withdrawal effects occur in the event of an abrupt discontinuation after prolonged use or high doses of the drug. Do not exceed the dose and not take the drug for a longer period of time than the time prescribed by your doctor. You should not abruptly discontinue taking Ativan, especially if you have been taking it for more than 5-7 days without consulting your doctor. Your doctor may recommend a gradual reduction in dose.

Your health practitioner may advise you to undergo a medical examination during the course of Lorazepam treatment in order to assess progress and side effects. Ativan tablets should be stored at room temperature in a cool dry place. Lorazepam should be stored in a fridge at 2 - 8 degrees Celsius, protected from light.
